I am moving to sunny L.A to work for Dreamworks Animation!! It’s been my dream for long time and so I am ridiculously happy and grateful to finally have the the opportunity. My friends, family and girlfriend supported me over the past couple of years whilst pursuing the dream, they have been awesome despite all the social neglect! Aaanyway, I can’t wait to start learning from some of the best animators on the planet, not to mention contribute to my favourite films!

I am pleased to say that my short film Reach will be in competition at the Siggraph Computer Animation Festival 09! The response so far on the festival circuit has been really inspiring, some more awards have come in over the past couple of months, but the best part has been the feedback from people who have attended screenings and gone to the effort to look me up and get in touch after. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
I added some more work to my showreel, I’m still toying around with idea of axing some shots but this is what I have come up with for now. I’d be interested to hear any feedback in regards to what to keep or discard.. cheers!
I’m excited to say the latest issue of 3D World Magazine features an article on my short film Reach! I haven’t been able to find a copy yet but it seems like just about everyone else has. There is also a write up in this months issue of Inside Film Magazine. All in all It’s been a great month for the film with it also winning awards at it’s first two film festivals and future screenings confirmed in the U.S, U.K and Australia. more info at: www.reachthefilm.com
It has been too long since my last post, but in my defense I was traveling for much of the down time. Now back in Australia I’m refreshed and ready to go about my bidness. While I was away I attended the Animation Mentor graduation ceremony in San Francisco. It was so awesome to meet my classmates in person, and I was honored to be presented with both the Mentor Choice Award and the Best Dialogue Acting Award. Sadly it was all over too soon, but hopefully I will cross paths with some of them again
.
After graduation, Helena and I headed to Japan for a much anticipated holiday. The Ghibli museum was a real highlight and probably the best museum/exhibition I have ever visited. Anyone who has been will know what I mean when I say the effort that has gone into making it and immersive experience as apposed to just looking at pictures in a row on the wall, really makes all the difference. The children in the life size totoro cat bus romp area were going nuts, but not as much as the wailing ones on the side lines waiting for their allotted turn, who literally had to be physically restrained by their parents as they attempted repeatedly to jump/crawl under/ bash through the security fences whilst screaming uncontrollably. Awesome!
Well I finished up my short film “REACH” a while back, It was a lot of fun and a long slog to get it done but overall it was extremely satisfying and something I would like to do again if I can find the time. I’ll be posting the whole film online as soon as I am able to, but in the meantime I have some screen shots and general info up over at the www.reachthefilm.com . Cheers!
A real Open Season 2 trailer is out! One of my shots is in there, look out for “it’s a shortcuuuuuuut!”. I think ReelFX did a great job with the rendering and animation, the turn around on the film was incredibly tight. Anyway, here it is!
Hey all,
I just wanted to post a quick update. I am alive, relatively well and still working on my short film. My naivety shows in the previous with “i just have to render this sucker”… turns out rendering is slightly more in-depth than pressing the render button and waiting a couple of weeks so I am currently bogged down big time, but the first the renders are starting come down the tubes so I will post up some stuff later in the week. In the meantime this image is fitting, HRRRGH!
I graduated from Animation Mentor today and oh hooo what a sweet ride it has been. AM work has been such a big part of my routine for the past 18 months it’s gonna be kinda weird now it’s over. I guess I will go back to sleeping and spending time with family and friends if they haven’t forgotten who I am.
Meanwhile… I have wrapped up animation on my short film and it is weighing in at over 3 minutes! All I gotta do is render this sucker and then it can take its rightful place in the abyss, fading into obscurity and being trashed on youtube!
